Using Stock or Aftermarket Instrument Gauge?

Something you will see in the year/model drop-down menu when purchasing wheels is (Using Stock Instrument Gauge) or (Using Aftermarket Gauge). Depending on the bike, that can be a speedo only, odometer only, or speedo/odometer combo (or even more functions!).

Most modern wheels that come with an instrument gauge will still work with your new wheels! However, there are some models that require use of a special hub or spacer to accommodate the stock gauge vs an aftermarket gauge. Therefore, we need to know which you are running on your bike to make sure you get the right parts.

In summary, if you see an option on your model for (Using Stock Instrument Gauge) or (Using Aftermarket Gauge) and you’re running a stock gauge then select the Using Stock Instrument Gauge option. If you’re already running or plan to run an aftermarket gauge such as a Trail Tech, then select Using Aftermarket Gauge. AND, if you don’t see an option on your model, but your model does come from the factory with a gauge this simply means the stock gauge will work and we don’t need to know which you are running because it won’t change anything!

Below is a breakdown that may help you with deciding whether you want—or need—a new gauge, such as a Trail Tech. You won’t see the obvious in the below list which is models that do not come with a gauge from the factory such as most MX bikes. These will understandably need a gauge (speedo/odometer or both) if it’s required in your state to have one to make your dirt bike street legal.

Honda:

CRF-X – Select whether using stock or aftermarket gauge.

CRF-L – Compatible with stock gauge.

XR’s (All) – Not compatible with stock gauge. Trail Tech recommended.

Kawasaki:

No models are compatible with stock gauges. Trail Tech recommended.

Suzuki:

DRZ’s – Select whether using stock or aftermarket gauge.

DR650 - Compatible with stock gauge.

Yamaha:

WR-F – Select whether using stock or aftermarket gauge.

Husqvarna/KTM/Husaberg/Beta/2021 and newer GasGas:

All models that come factory with a stock gauge can choose the speedo magnet option and your stock gauge works!
